I’m Adam Penkul. Along with my associates, I specialise in coaching and psychotherapy for people who are seeking the best possible support for ibogaine treatment.
We believe that pre-treatment preparation and post treatment integration is essential to make the most of your experience.
We can’t make promises for specific results, but we offer our best efforts and what I believe to be the highest standards of therapeutic care, brought with integrity and compassion. No one takes the decision to have Iboga treatment lightly. Those of us who do so, have significant reasons for going through this potentially challenging process. Our aim is to effectively and compassionately support your recovery journey so that you can lead your life to the full.
My work is founded in personal experience of psychological illness and recovery which was assisted with the targeted use of Iboga.
I am a trauma informed therapist which means I help people who suffer with a range of issues including: PTSD and trauma, substance and process addiction, relational challenges, psycho-spiritual development, spiritual emergency and spiritual emergence, times of life transition, grief and the challenges of illness and mortality. I also work with people who have anxiety disorders and body dysmorphia.
I am fully qualified as a psychotherapist in the UK and have an MA in psychosynthesis psychology. I have been working with clients for the past decade.
Within this website you can find out much more about the way I work and all kinds of information relating to Ibogaine treatment.
There are a lot of resources for anyone considering iboga treatment within the Q&A and Articles, Information and Resources pages.
Get started with a no obligation consultation
If you are considering or have decided to have iboga treatment, I encourage you to contact me for a free consultation meeting, which will be by phone, WhatsApp call, Skype or Zoom.
You will have a chance to tell me your story and to discuss what working together may involve and the best way for us to collaborate surrounding your treatment. You will also have an opportunity to ask me any questions about my work and myself, in order to get a sense of whether you feel I am the right fit for you.
I will ask a series of questions that are important in order to determine whether I am the best support for you. I may make referrals to other trusted experts, if necessary. It’s of upmost importance that you work safely, with an individual who is ideally suited to your unique needs.
If we choose to move forward then we will draw up a working contract and schedule meetings. You will also need to establish contact with a trusted treatment provider or facility if you haven’t already done so. I will need to coordinate with your treatment provider to establish a collaborative plan, including supportive and protective boundaries for our work.
Psychotherapy and Coaching
My primary training is psychosynthesis, which is a psycho-spiritual and transpersonal model, developed by Roberto Assagioli. This model is an ideal foundation for working with Iboga. It has some parallels with the parts work of internal Family Systems therapy and the training is integrative which means it incorporates many of the leading developments in the psychotherapeutic field. Further to this, I am in ongoing self-directed education and taking courses, to improve my practice.
I have personally been through a lot of therapy in various modalities, so I understand how it feels to be in the position of the client or patient. I hope that this will reflect in my demeanour and will make it easier to share and build a caring and productive working relationship.
My work is humanistic, this is an approach that emphasises self-exploration, personal growth, and the innate potential for healing. It fosters a non-judgmental, empathetic space where individuals can develop self-awareness and self-acceptance.
I also work from an insight based model of therapy which focuses on uncovering underlying thoughts, emotions, and past experiences that shape current behaviours. Through reflection and guided exploration, clients gain deeper understanding of their struggles, leading to meaningful and lasting change. This approach empowers individuals to develop clarity, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self.
When I was in therapy I experienced the benefit of having sessions more frequently than weekly. Because of this I am available to negotiate weekly, or more intensively scheduled meetings.
Support for families and loved ones
I offer consultation with families to give space to explore the often highly challenging dynamics of caring for a loved one who is suffering. This is not only a challenge to respond and act wisely, but due to the intensely personal and provocative nature of such issues, these also present a challenge for personal growth for caregivers and confidants. I am here to offer systemic support, as I believe that very often symptoms are best addressed not only within the individual, but also within the family and community.
Intensive Support and Companion Service
If you want the very best outcome for your treatment and a professional alongside you who is dedicated to caring for your needs and keeping you safe, this service offers the most intensive and supportive experience.
Often it’s not possible or practical to travel with our loved ones but we want to be accompanied by someone trusted. A few of my clients are fortunate to have the financial resources enabling them to benefit from a very personalised, intensive supportive relationship.
With Intensive Support and Companion Service, I contract with patients to travel with them to their chosen treatment provider, staying nearby during their iboga treatment and accompanying them to their next destination (usually their home). Following this, I support them as they return to their home environment where their therapeutic integration process continues.
The benefit of this way of working is that I offer a grounded presence throughout and assist with the nuances of integration. It is often a challenge to return alone to the environment where previous troubles were present and for some people there may be a tendency to slip backward. Fortunately, post Iboga treatment, there is a greatly increased state of neuro-plasticity and with appropriate care this can be a time of great transformation.
This option is realistically only feasible for those who are able to form a very solid and healthy therapeutic relationship. This is a time intensive process which is demanding of the therapist and admittedly a very costly option, but which offers the best outcome possible. There is a waiting list to schedule this intensive pre and post treatment therapy.
I’m happy to discuss and negotiate what aspects of the above levels of care are most suitable for you or your loved one. Message me for a no obligation call.
Supervision and Consultation for Treatment Providers and Clinical Trials Work
As a Trauma Informed therapist, I’m excited to be part of the emerging field of Iboga treatments for conditions such as anxiety disorders and PTSD. I have lived experience of the effects of Iboga for an entrenched anxiety disorder and process addiction associated with body dysmorphia.
Iboga providers often face great pressure and like everyone, our lives are full of challenges. Working relationships and personal lives can become complex because of the nature of the work. Without adequate self-care, and appropriate space for support, sharing and processing, our personal challenges may be carried with us into our work. With proper support, our life challenges can empower our capacity for empathy and enhance our care for others.
I offer supervision for treatment providers, and a safe and confidential space to facilitate this reflective process, so that together, we can learn to approach ourselves more compassionately and bring this attitude to our work with patients and clients. I encourage supervision clients to attend monthly sessions and to check in whenever necessary.
Consultation and Clinical Trials Work
I am available to consult with treatment facilities and clinical trial teams developing psychotherapeutic protocols and best standards of care for patients. Also for clinical trials in the assessment phase and therapeutically, pre and post treatment with patients who have been subjects on clinical trials of Iboga.
My Services -Legal and Regulatory
In the UK I am fully qualified to work as a psychotherapist and have training as a psychedelic assisted psychotherapist. I am an accredited member of two professional organisations and abide by their code of ethics. I have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) certificate, this is a criminal record check that helps employers make safer recruitment decisions. DBS checks are also a legal requirement for people who work with children or vulnerable adults. I am insured as a therapist and I have ongoing peer and private supervision and continuing personal and professional development.
Due to regional and national differences in accreditation and registration of therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists, when working with clients who live outside the UK, I offer my services solely as a coach. This is for legal reasons and will not impact the quality of our work together. My practice is regulated by English and Welsh Law only.
For legal reasons, I’m not able to make direct referrals to clinics or treatment providers. Your treatment and relationship with them is undertaken solely at your own discretion. My work is strictly within the realm of coaching and psychotherapy and I can take no responsibility for your choice to undergo treatment, nor for the experience that you undergo during treatment.
